Wii Zapper Controversy

:

It was reported recently that there were parents who are angry about the upcoming release of the Wii accessory, the Wii Zapper.

They think that it will make children violent when they play games with this accessory because it simulates shooting games to another level.

Susan Arendt from Wired.com noted some interesting comments and here they are:

“Great, this is what we need. Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot. Then we can sit back and wonder what is happening to our country with kids killing kids……what’s next? Could we make it squirt blood, too?”

“The gun like remote will get someone killed…. unless it’s pink with a flag in the muzzel [sic]. Toy guns of yesteryear were red, blue and whatever… no ligitimate reason to risk anyones life. The idiot that made the remote should have his/her brain checked….if they have one.”

“I think it’s irresponsible for Wii to come out with a controller that looks like a gun so kids can play games simulating shooting. What kind of message are we sending as parents when we buy these things for our kids?”

As you may know, almost every new technology has a good effect and a bad effect. Perhaps, this is the negative side of the Wii.

I think that the comments are valid in some respects that they should be worried about this but I do not think it will ultimately make kids violent.

Those that think their sons can’t play a game using Wii Zapper simply doesn’t have buy this.

No one have to buy it.

Idiots. Teach your kids right and wrong. Kids know the difference between games and real life. If they don’t then you’ve failed as a parent.

PLUS the thing isn’t really point and shoot, the wii remote acts more like a mouse. You won’t be sighting down the barrel or anything.

If those “parents” really knew anything about the Wii Zapper, then they’d know that:

    1) it’s just a holder for the remote and nunchuck controller
    2) Wii isn’t a company … Nintendo is …
    3) they’ve failed as a parent if their kids are killing other kids
    4) it’s as harmless as a toy gun from “yesteryear”
    5) they don’t have to buy it
    6) they’ve been living under a rock if they haven’t seen other video game consoles with zapper-like devices

Look if a child is old enough to go inot a store a buy the gun themselves then they should be old enough to play a game and no the diffrence between reality and a game. If however they are not old enough then the parents should not be buying these things for thier child. I think something like this is a great addition to the already successfull system. This gun would make playing some games a much funner experience.

Stupid people always have to bitch about something meaningless. Oh no!!! Not gun that doesn’t really shoot anything! Idiots.

  6. Kevin Says:

In 1985 a great game came out called Duck Hunt for the NES it also came with a gun to use to shoot these ducks. For years my friends and family would play this game using this gun (that other then a cord looked more like a real gun then the Zapper does) and yet nobody i know that played this game has gone out and killed somebody. That’s not the only game either, i can remember going into a local Pizza parlor and playing games such as “Area 51″ and various other shooting games. Various people need to open their eyes and realize Violence has always been around and Home video Games have only been around since the 70’s….So before blaming the games, put down your wine bottle, put away your percocet’s and pay attention to your kid/kids when they sneak out of your trailer at midnight
