Wii Takes 1st Place

:

It had to happen sooner or later. Now, it is official. The newest console system from Nintendo is now officially the #1 console that has sold the most systems anywhere in the world.

This statistic is according to Vgchartz, an independent tracker. It has managed to outsell the Xbox 360 with a margin of 2.3 : 1 on an average week worldwide ever since it was released according to aussie-nintendo.com’s article.

I am a bit surprised that it happened this year. I knew that there would be more people who would buy a Wii than an Xbox 360 but I did not think it could happen this year. I would have predicted it would happen next year.

This marks the first time that Nintendo led both the console and handheld markets since the days of their first handheld system, the Gameboy, and their second console system, the Super Nintendo.

The article notes that the rate of Wii systems that were sold is faster than the Playstation 2 which holds the record before the Wii even though there was a scarcity when it was released.

Currently, the number of Wii systems that were sold is 60,000 systems more than the Xbox 360.

I noticed that other places besides Japan and America, bought more Xbox 360s than Wiis. This is according to the image in the article which shows how many people bought the three different consoles in three different locations which are Japan, America, and “Others”.

I’m not surprised that the Wii sold fast, we had a go last weekend when our daughter bought a Wii - it was great fun, even her Nanny at 83 took part in the game of Ten Pin Bowling and got strikes and spares …… a good alround family package.

Needless to say, we have now ordered one and awaiting delivery, challenges over the phone to our daughter are about to happen !
