Wario “Shakes” Things Up On The Wii

:

Wario has had a pretty varied career so far for Nintendo. He started out on the original Game Boy, as a villain to Mario, in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. He has seen his own exclusive titles throughout the years, most recently in the WarioWare series. WiiFanboy, is reporting that Wario shall be returning to his 2D platforming roots this summer.

I’m pretty stoked to see Wario putting on his platforming shoes, as it’s been too long since Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. The Japanese “fact sheet” that was leaked, has been translated, so we have a basic idea behind the gameplay of Wario Land: Shake.

It looks like Wario will be returning to most of the traditional locales (jungles, deserts, oceans). What looks to be new, is that the game will feature some kind of activity with rockets and submarines as well. From the information being released, there will be 20 levels in the title. The “Shake” aspect of the game looks to the core idea behind the platforming gameplay. By shaking the wii remote, you’ll be able to discover hidden areas, as well as shake enemies down for loose change. The sheet also stated that the game will feature cel-shaded graphics in a 2-D setting.

Luckily the fact sheet has been scanned and is readily available for viewing. The screen look rather intriguing, and definitely looks like some of the great 2D platformers of yesteryear.

Wario Land: Shake is slated for a 07/24 Japanese release, so hopefully a US announcement isn’t too far off.

I enjoyed Wario Land 3 for the GBC. It was unique for its day. I never played 4 or the Master of Diguise games, but I hear they went to the health model instead of the “stuck in an impossible situation” model for failure.

I’m interested in new platformer, as I’ve always hated the mini-game Wario games.
