It’s Friday once again, so that means I get to post my top 5 list for the Nintendo Wii. I was able to find out some good news today about the Virtual Console (scroll down to #1 for the news). So in light of this news, I figured I would post my Top 5 List of “Most Wanted Virtual Console Titles”.
5. – Mega Man Games

These trio of pictures represent just a few of the different styles that Mega Man has had over the years. Starting out as a small sprite on the NES, Mega Man has always been a staple for the Nintendo consoles. The spirit and gameplay of Mega Man hasn’t changed a whole lot through the years, until he went into 3-D. None of those 3-D games could capture the frantic gameplay mechanics of the 2-D versions. Any of the NES, or SNES versions of Mega Man need to be on the Virtual Console, as soon as possible.
4. – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game

One of the best arcade experiences I ever had, was the TMNT arcade game. I would pump more quarters into that machine, than any other at my local arcade. So for Christmas back in the early 90′s, my dad gave me TMNT 2: The Arcade Game. It was probably one of the best arcade-NES ports for its’ time, and captured the fun that the arcade machine had. Not only was it a pretty faithful rendition, it actually had extra levels, which would become some of my favorite stages in the game. So just for nostalgia purpose alone, TMNT 2: The Arcade Game is a title that I definitely want to see hit the Virtual Console.
3. – Super Punch Out

Don’t Let Kagero’s Long White Hair, and Pink Makeup Fool You….He/Her Can Throw Down
Mike Tyson’s Punch Out was probably one of the hardest/fun games to be released on the NES. When the SNES was released, a Punch Out sequel was not too far behind. Super Punch Out took the same style of play from its’ predecessor, and improved upon it, by adding a faster sense of speed, more complex moves, and some new colorful boxers. I’ve probably logged more hours onto Super Punch Out than any other SNES game that I have. I would love to see it release on the Virtual Console, and since Punch Out is already out, hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer.
2. – Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger tells One Of The Greatest Stories In Video Game History
Back in 1995, I was only 11 years old. This is kind of sad because I was truly too young to appreciate everything Chrono Trigger offered when it came out. Chrono Trigger is still one of the greatest RPG’s of all time, and still matches up well with current releases of today. When you start getting into the time-travelling story of CT, you’ll want to keep playing for hours. There are colorful characters, ranging from a honorable frog knight, to a futuristic robot, and a brass-knuckles cave woman. All of the characters played off each other well, and depending who you had in your party, you could pull of a variety of different special moves in combat. This game was way, way ahead of its’ time when it came out, and a re-visit on the VC would be nice.
1. – Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars

Still One Of The Greatest Games Of All Time
The #1 game on today’s list, is the reason for the Top 5 list today. Earlier this morning, some great news fell into my lap. Vooks.net, is reporting that Super Mario RPG is on the lineup for the Japanese Virtual Console list. This is great news, just for the fact that it has made its’ way onto any VC list. The game was a collaboration between Nintendo, and Square, so many were worried that it would be awhile before we would see it, if at all. It’s only scheduled for a Japanese release for now, but hopefully that means that a US announcement can’t be too far off.
Super Mario RPG like Chrono Trigger was a game that was ahead of it’s time, in terms of graphics, and gameplay. SMRpg was set in a pseudo 3-D world, and was the first look at a 3-D Mario. The gameplay mechanics were interactive, where a timed mini-game would occur whenever you attacked, or were attacked upon. RPG’s before it were pretty much – pick an attack…wait for attack to commence…wait for opponent to attack back. But with adding in time-based mechanics, you felt more engaged battles than many RPGs before it . I shall be counting the days until Super Mario RPG graces the Virtual Console.
Are there any old-school releases that you’re looking forward to? Would love to see some other classic releases for the Virtual Console that people are excited about

Yeah that’s great news about Super Mario RPG. I’d say it’s probably the game I’ve been wishing they’d rerelease more then any other.

For old school NES, I’m looking for Bionic Commando, Blaster Master, Metal Storm, Shadow of the Ninja, Strider and Super Tecmo Bowl!!
June 5th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
@ Mario
I totally forgot about Blaster Master…if i’m not mistaken that’s the game had a book to go alongside with it

Blaster Master was great! It was way ahead of it’s time. It was a combination of a 2D scrolling game with portions of the game that were almost 3D platformer in nature!
Metal Storm was a shooter, but had the cool element of being able to reverse gravity whenever you wanted!
I understand that they are finally releasing a follow-up to Bionic Commando. I guess it is more of a re-start for the series. From what I’ve seen, it is nothing like the original (other that the bionic arm).
Tecmo is releasing a new Tecmo Bowl but it is for the DS or something like that. They no longer have the NFL license because Madden has it locked up. I hate Madden. Honestly, their is nothing good about a monopoly.
Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane!!

MY TOP 5~!
5.Super Mario Kart (SNES)
An amazing game that has seemingly avoided the port to virtual console, for reasons beyond me. If you grew up in the 90′s and had the SNES, you have either heard of this gem or were a diehard fan.
4.Mystical Ninja starring Goemon (N64)
The Movie Gallery in my city practically never saw this game. I rented it quite a few times and never beat it! Shame on me. This would make an amazing port to the VC.
3.Pocky & Rocky (SNES)
Ah the old run and shoot japanese mytho’s as a girl or a racoon. That genre never dies.O:] <3
2.Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics 2 (NES)
The first Star Tropics is out, and it’s good (Better then this sequel), but this game got me hooked on the series initially. If they put the first one on, I’d expect this sequel in the months to come.
1.Congo’s Capers (SNES)
My love. If you mixed Mario and sonic together this would be the birth child. In honor of Joe and Mac this dragon ball z-esque game is a gem that slipped under the radar. If you are one of the few that knew and loved this game, you’d understand completely why it should be on the VC. It’s hard, it’s fun, it’s cute; it’s a part of my childhood that I hold dear. BRING THIS TO VC <3~

I agree that Super-Punch-Out is a top 5 SNES game. Why don’t they put it on the virtual console? They could make decent money off it. They have the Mike Tyson one, but that one sucks compared to Super Punch-Out. When can we possibly see some new games added?

KILLER INSTINCT…
PLEASE!!!
