Do you like your Wii? James Rivington appreciates his, but he hasn’t blinded himself to its faults. In fact, in an article for Tech.co.uk, Rivington points out seven areas in which there’s room for improvement. You can decide for yourself if you agree - here’s his list (minus the explanatory paragraphs):
1. The graphics
2. The games
3. Rechargeable Wiimote
4. More innovative peripherals
5. More storage
6. Network play
7. Nunchuck

Responses to criticisms 1 - 7.
1. The graphics
Unfortunately most games to date have had crappy, cartoony graphics that could have been made in Flash. Fortunately recent games have been released with better graphics (i.e. the new Mortal Kombat Armageddon) and more will come. It’s not HD, but who has a HD tv anyway?
2. The games
Similarly with the graphics, the games have typically been “party” oriented, i.e. fun with other people, sucky by themselves. Being a new gamestation with new gameplay it’ll take a little while to get a decent list of games behind it.
3. Rechargeable Wiimote
You can get rechargeable stations for wiimotes… not sure why he’s criticising this.
4. More innovative peripherals
The wiimote is already pretty innovative… way more so than PS3 or 360. And it’s completely Gamecube compatible. I don’t have a GC but am impressed by that!
5. More storage
For what? I have a 1gb SD card in mine and have about 0.99gb free space.
6. Network play
Network play is coming, the new Mario Strikers has network play… again it wasn’t the intention of the original marketing push.
7. Nunchuck
Bless you. Not sure what he’s criticising here… that there is a nunchuck? The nunchuck is almost perfect.
If anything i guess my nunchuck cord is too short and doesn’t allow for much sideways reach, but then again i’m a tall guy.
