The Grinder – Left 4 Dead Meets Van Helsing

Kate Beckinsale

With another passing day; it means we are another day closer to the coming of E3. I can hardly keep my warp pipe decorated pajama pants on in anticipation of the upcoming game announcements that are sure to please. If the pre-E3 game announcements from High Voltage are any indication, then we’re in for an epic E3 for Nintendo. Yesterday, the gladiator loving Nintendo Wii owning crowd was privy to the Gladiator A.D announcement.

Now, for you Left 4 Dead — Van Helsing (for me, Kate Beckinsale) loving crowd comes the announcement of The Grinder. Just like the Gladiator A.D announcement, IGN sat down with the higher-ups of High Voltage and was able to get some information. Here’s the important facts about The Grinder. Unfortunately, not as much information was spilled about The Grinder as Gladiator A.D.

– The story is vague so far. Eric Nofsinger stated that it would be a “cryptobiological A-Team” vs. vampires, werewolves and the undead.

– Hector, Doc, AJ, and Miko are the announced characters. Hector is a bounty hunter. Doc is a scientist trying to figure out the biological workings of the creatures. AJ is an explorer looking for revenger. Miko is a deadly assassin looking for a challenge.

– There are talks of bringing light RPG elements to the game. In terms of upgrading characters.

– The Quantam3 engine is being used for The Grinder. During in-house testing, High Voltage was able to put 65 enemies on screen at once. It’s important to remember that this is an early build as well.

– There have been a few weapons hinted at, they include: dual-wield .45′s, SMG, 12-gauge, and AK-47. Miko, the assassin will also wield some sort of blade. The inclusion of Wii Remote MotionPlus was hinted at.

– The dev team boasts that the game will feature even more customizing than The Conduit, which is already supposed to be a highly customizable game.

– The Grinder will feature online co-op multiplayer. There have been few details announced; the game will support Wii Speak.

– The game will also feature single player, but again very few details have been announced.

– There will be buckets of blood on the screen.

– The game is slated for a holiday 2010 release.

Below is a montage of screenshots from The Grinder. Whoever keeps making these videos needs to keep it up, they save space and you get some music whilst viewing.
