Announced in early April, The Conduit is a FPS that is slated to release for the Wii Q1 2009. High Voltage is the developer behind the project; which hasn’t been behind any ground-breaking projects in the past. Most of their previous work has dealt with a lot of movie-game, and TV show-game adaptations. But now they are looking to break out, and The Conduit looks impressive, so far.
What has been catching so much buzz behind The Conduit, is the trailer that was released a month ago:
Most Wii gamers are just glad to see another FPS coming to the console. Easily the most impressive aspect of the trailer to me is how the graphics are shaping up, and there’s still quite a bit of time before it releases. It’s not a secret that a lot of games haven’t been pushing the limits of the Wii from a technological standpoint. The term “shovelware” has been coined for titles that seem rushed by devs/publishers as a means to cash in on the popularity of the Wii. So, just the fact that a game like The Conduit looks to be the pushing the Wii’s graphical limits is quite refreshing.
Some more details have been announced, via Kombo.com. They have confirmed that The Conduit will have a competitive online mode (to most FPS fan’s joy). The protagonist has been announced, as you’ll play Secret Service Agent Ford. The story will have you taking on an unknown alien force, and you must discover the mystery behind their coming.
Here is a statement released by Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software, “Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics”
I really hate this new fad of categorizing games as ‘casual’ and ‘hardcore’. What’s to say that one person’s view of a game being casual is the same as the next person’s. Barring that statement I’m pretty stoked to see how The Conduit will shape up in the future. I’m a fairly big FPS fan. I believe that if utilized properly the wii remote could become more suited for the genre than mouse and keyboard.
What is your take on The Conduit? Are you pretty hyped to see some stellar graphics, and alien fighting gameplay?

Wow this lets me speak. Yes I am hyped, I am just glad to see someone other then Nintendo itself at least attempt to push the system. A solid FPS with a good online system would tear me away from the 360′s, MOH2 is fun, but the collision detection is just so terrible it makes you not want to play it. Wiiboy is right, talk is just that, but as it is with any game on any system, you have to take you time, make sure the gamplay is there, then try to make it look nice, and of course make it fun.
