I think we’re only too well aware that Nintendo have had some reservations about going online in the past, but it appeared the company were finally getting their skates on following the launch of the Wii.
However, if we’re to believe what SNK’s Ben Herman says on the matter, then it would appear that no third party titles will include online functionality this year. The following is what Herman said in an interview with Spong.com:-
“Nintendo is still not letting Wii third-party publishers include online capabilities in their games and it doesn’t look like they will during 2007. So the best chance they have at building an online presence appears to be what they’re doing with Virtual Console.”
We’ll file this under ‘rumors’ for now, as we’ve had no official confirmation from Nintendo as of yet. Still, not exactly an encouraging forecast for the Wii’s online plans.
