Piracy Suit Against Korean Websites

:

Various internet sites have reported that Nintendo has filed a suit with the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in Seoul against people who uploaded pirated copies of their software on webhard and peer-to-peer sites.

“They infringed on our copyright by posting Nintendo’s game titles through the Internet without our permission. The legal action was taken against only some sites and users this time but we will take further measures if such a violation continues to take place,” said Mineo Koda, who is a Nintendo spokesperson, in a recent interview with Yonhap News Agency.

“So far, we only have warned against piracy and those who allegedly have earned profits from copied products. But we have no choice but to take legal action against them,” she added.

Nintendo DS Lite was introduced in Korea last January. Nintendo plans to release more localized game titles in the second half of this year. The article from koreatimes.co.kr does not mention whether Nintendo had released or is planning to release the Nintendo Wii console to Korea.

This is the first time that Nintendo will bring to court a copyright infringement case in this location.

They also made a similar move in China earlier this month. I have not heard any updates as to whether or not they were successful in that case.
