MadWorld Trailer & MadWorld Hating

:

Rarely when writing a blog is it a good thing to say you’re ’speechless’. That is what this most recent MadWorld trailer did to me. I’m floored which is a hard thing to do with a video game. I like to think I’m a connoisseur, and that I’ve seen it all. There are moments though that take breaths away, and this MadWorld trailer is one of them. Instead of typing OMG around a hundred times I’ll just let you check the new trailer out yourself.

Of course this wouldn’t be a blog post unless I had something to complain about, which brings us to the bad news about MadWorld. Calling for the ban of a video game isn’t all that shocking. John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk is calling for such a ban on the heavily hyped MadWorld. It should be noted for American readers that this is only for the ‘UK’. He doesn’t want the game to be classified by the British Board of Film Classification. If this were to occur it would essentially make MadWorld illegal to purchase in the UK.

Is it just me or is it a little early to judge MadWorld. I mean sure we’ve seen a couple of trailers, but how can you place judgement on a game that isn’t even out yet. Let alone ready to show gameplay footage. The most recent trailer has left me impressed, but that doesn’t mean I’m ready to deem the game great or not. I think Beyer could heed the same advice, because until the game is ready for release who’s to say it’s suitable for a UK purchase or not?

HillCrest Labs Files Patent Suit Against Nintendo

:

Patent suits have been all the rage against video game companies as of late. First, Sony had a patent infringment brought on them by Immersion for their dual shock technology. You might also remember the patent case against Nintendo way back when for their Gamecube and Wavebird controller designs; by unknown Anascape. It looks like there’s a new kid in town ready to take on Nintendo, and they go by the name of HillCrest Labs.

To give HillCrest Labs credit, they actually do offer a service and product, unlike Anascape which was your classic case of patent squatting or trolling, whichever you prefer. Back in 2001 HillCrest filed for a patent for a technology that interacts with digital media on television using motion-control and pointing techniques. HillCrest has said that many of their patented technologies have been licensed by consumer electronics companies, but didn’t disclose any names.

Nintendo Wii Zombie Freakout

:

Anyone who has a love for zombies, particularly withing the medium of video games should be all smiles. At the GC (Games Convention: Leipzig) yesterday one largely anticipated game, Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop made its gameplay video debut. On top of that we were introduced to House of the Dead: Overkill.

You know you have a couple of good zombie games, if both are being banned in Germany. Ironic considering both are being shown off in the country they’re being banned from.

Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop you more than likely have heard of. We’ve been told of some details of the game. We know there will be point and shoot controls for firing your projectile weapons. We also know that Capcom is working to make the save system less awful than it was on the Xbox 360. There will be motion controls attached to the melee weapons as well. A Capcom exec let it be known that most of the melee weapons will have a ‘charge’ option so you can pull off more powerful attacks by shaking your Wii Remote. Now we get to see that in action…

Madden 09 All Play Review

:

It’s been awhile since there has been a WiiBlog review. I’ve put enough time into Madden 09 All Play to provide an informative and unbiased opinion (atleast I think so). So let’s get to it.

Madden Review

Pros - Same fun and addictive gameplay as Madden 07. Glitches and bugs from Madden 08 have been fixed. Solid multiplayer experience. Very intuitive and responsive motion controls. More fluid animations. 5-on-5 can be a fun multiplayer distraction. Call Your Shot is a great addition.

Cons - Still not pushing the Wii from a technical standpoint. Forced integration of mii referees, and celebrations. Very odd in-game presentation choices. Trying to appeal to hardcore and casual Madden players at the same time leaves some holes for both. No improvement on older modes.

Mega Man Hits Virtual Console

:

Ok, I sounded really whiny in my previous article, so figured I should post some good news to counter it. It’s just been announced that Mega Man will be hitting the Virtual Console sometime today. The timing isn’t surprising as the release of Mega Man 9 creeps on us. It’s odd but no official release has been given for Mega Man 9, so could this news mean it’s coming sooner rather than later, I sure hope so.

Article Stolen and New Captain Rainbow Screens

:

Well I definitely am having a case of the Mondays (gotta love Office Space references). I was perusing N4G to see if any news happened over the weekend that would be worth mentioning. I was aghast when I saw a familiar looking article with the title, “Great 5 Nintendo Wii Game Port Ideas”. I was excited at first when I thought that my Top 5 list from last Friday was on N4G. When I clicked on the article I was shocked to find it led to another website. The article was a piss poor summarization of my article, but no foul; because there would be a via or reference link, right? No, the owner of Varologic.com evidently feels ideas that aren’t his can be used without reference. Anyway, the dilemma is over and I posted the real link, to the real story….so moving on.
