This could rack up as being one of the greatest mornings/days ever. You never complain when you only work half a day, and enjoy one of the most perfect days outside. I’ve been giddy since I’ve woken up, but now there’s even more reason for my smile to get bigger. It was announced today that Madden 09 now has a cover athlete. While news like this usually gets a shoulder shrug, this year’s athlete has me intrigued. I won’t ruin the surprise for you, and just let you view this video from Gametrailers.com.

I’ve been a gamer since I can remember. In the late 80’s I received a NES, and haven’t looked back since. We’ve seen interesting evolution in the industry that we love so much. We’ve gone from plumbers gathering mushrooms, to overly endowed women shooting at bears, to epic stories in space. What has not evolved is the need for “fun” to be prevalent in the games we play. You remember “fun”, right? The ideal that we take a little time from the day to relax, and get ourselves caught up in a world beyond our own.

A launch event for the much anticipated Mario Kart Wii, has been announced. It will take place in Nintendo’s New York Rockefeller Plaza World Store. The news of a launch party isn’t anything new or exciting, mainly because most of us wont be there.
What might make you raise an eyebrow of this launch event is who is going to be there. Jason Priestly, the heart throb from 90210 will make an appearance at the event.
To people uninformed this might seem like an odd decision for a celebrity appearance, but Priestly is a racing enthusiast. He’s actually a former driver and analyst; he now owns his own racing team which plans to race in the Indianapolis 500. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it from his appearance at the launch party.

I Bet Priestly Is A Toad User

As I eat my chocolate covered donuts, and doing my best to not get into shape, Nintendo has launched their Wii Fit website. The website is actually very intuitive, and fun to navigate around, showing off all the different functions that Wii Fit will have. It’s completely done in Flash by the looks of it. Each section on the site has a mini interactive version of the features that will be in Wii Fit.

It’s needless to say that the Virtual Console has been through a pretty slow slump in 08. We’ve seen a fairly good amount of first-party Nintendo titles, but it’s been pretty dry for third-party releases. Today, on 04/21, it looks as though as the slump is over, as a NES classic makes it’s way to the download service.

While our Europe, and Japanese gamers are enjoying their copy of Mario Kart Wii, we sit patiently in the states for the release. One good thing about having to wait, is we get to enjoy more gameplay videos before its’ launch. Ok, so that’s not very much silver lining, but hey at least it’s Friday. Anyway, here is a pretty interesting gameplay video from Gametrailers.com. It shows the differences and similarities between power sliding in Mario Kart Wii, and Mario Kart: Double Dash.

A collaborative effort between EA and Steven Spielberg isn’t at all surprising. These two have hooked up before, when Spielberg wrote the story for EA’s Medal of Honor back in 1999. What is definitely surprising, is Spielberg’s newest collaboration with EA for the Wii. Boom Blox is the title and is starting to catch popularity across the video game-verse. Its’ gaining popularity has sparked a question in my mind. What’s the reason behind the sudden interest in Boom Blox; is it the physics engine or Steven Spielberg’s involvement?

Yesterday, Gametrailers posted some gameplay videos of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The videos come by way of the Nintendo Media Summit 08, where numerous games were shown off, unfortunately yours truly didn’t get to attend; maybe next year. After taking a gander at the videos, I am pretty pleased with how the game looks to be coming along. It’s hard to tell just how responsive the controls will actually be, but going by these videos they look to be pretty spot-on.

Ready At Dawn, and Capcom are slated to release their cult hit “Okami” today for the Wii. If you want to find a game that feels as though it was made for the Wii, you need not look any further than Okami. Clover Studio, is responsible for the PS2 release of Okami, and was also behind the Viewtiful Joe series. Ready At Dawn, who released Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP, is responsible for the porting of Okami to the Wii.
