A brand new game jam called "SNESDEV 2025" is set to kick off later this month, encouraging game developers to take part and play a role in advancing SNES homebrew.

The jam, which is being organized by Kannagichan, Svambo, and SNES-Testberichte, will begin on May 31st and will last until September 6th. Entry is still available, with participants being able to enter alone or in a group.

A new ROM hack for the SNES puzzle platformer The Lost Vikings has just been released, which allows players to experience some of the bonus features that were added to its later Mega Drive / Genesis port.

This includes the ability to experience the game with three players instead of two and explore five additional stages that were originally missing from its initial release.

If you cast your mind back to April 2021, you may vaguely remember reading the news that Pix'n Love and Aurora Game Studio were working on a revival of the SNES title Nightmare Busters for PC and consoles.

At the time, the two companies shared a bunch of pre-production screenshots of the project, as well as a number of potential features including redone graphics, level design, music, and UI, in addition to a two-player mode, an additional option for speedrunners, and much, much more. However, nothing ever really seemed to come of the project, with the game pretty much dropping off the map in the years since, except for a rare demo showing at Animasia, a French festival celebrating Asian culture in 2023.

This time it's the turn of the 1993 side-scrolling mech beat 'em up Mechanoids 2 - The Final Conflict to join the Game That Weren't Archive — a previously unheard-of SNES game that was pitched to various publishers in the early '90s before eventually being put to one side.

Pix'n Love has announced it will be bringing out a new "Ultimate Edition" of the SNES action platformer Nightmare Busters, as part of the Kickstarter for its remake Nightmare Busters Rebirth (which is coming to PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC).

According to a video on the Pix'n Love Games YouTube channel, this new version of the game, which stars the leprechauns Flynn and Floyd on a quest to stop nightmares spreading across the land, will feature a bunch of improvements over the original. This includes new game modes and bug fixes. It will also be available for both NTSC systems (Japanese and North American) and PAL (Europe), with optimizations for 60HZ and 50HZ setups.

A new English fan translation has just been released online for The Blue Crystal Rod — the fourth and final mainline entry in Namco's 'Babylonian Castle Saga' that started with the 1984 arcade classic Tower of Druaga.

The 1995 Japan-exclusive action game Feudal Bros: Tonosama #1 (otherwise known as Deae Tonosama Appare Ichiban) will released internationally next month across modern consoles and PC, it's been announced.

Ratalaika Games and Shinyuden will publish the game on April 4th across PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam), with the occasion marking the first time the title has ever officially been made available in English.

The Star Fox ROM hacker SunlitSpace has recently revealed a huge, new update to one of their earliest hacks, incorporating new graphics, redesigning several levels, and ironing out a bunch of lingering issues.

Sunlit’s Untitled Star Fox Minihack was originally built over the course of two days back in 2022, using the UltraStarFox source code as a base, and was released across various ROM Hacking sites that very same year. It gave players the ability to play through a special, newly designed route that featured 6 levels (5 of which were remixes based on existing locations from the original game, while the last was described as an entirely new planet).

Ten years ago, the mythical 'Nintendo PlayStation' became a solid reality when a prototype was discovered. This would eventually change hands for $360,000 in 2020, and was believed to be the only surviving example of the unreleased system—until now, that is.

Japan-based videographer and photographer Julian Domanski recently posted that he got to "fondle" a second prototype during a meeting with former Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Ken Kutaragi himself—also known as the Father of PlayStation.

Goichi "Suda51" Suda might be famous today for titles like No More Heroes, Killer7 and Lollipop Chainsaw, but even at the dawn of his career, he was making waves in the industry.

He started off at Human Entertainment in the '90s, working on the company's popular Fire Pro Wrestling series. Sunsoft's 1994 action-adventure title Shounen Ninja Sasuke is set to get its first-ever Western release later this week, courtesy of Ratalaika Games and Shinyuden.

The Japan-exclusive SNES title will be reissued on modern platforms (PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4) on February 28th, under the localized title Justice Ninja Casey, and will come with a new English translation, a rewind/turbo function, save states, screen filters, cheat options, a gallery, and a jukebox allowing you listen to its soundtrack.

A group of fans has recently created a brand new league for players to compete in on F-Zero SNES, called the Bower League, and it's now available to download for yourself if you want to put your skills to the test.

The fanmade league was created by members of the F-Zero online Discord community as part of a month-long community challenge, using the FZEdit level editing tool. It was organized by the F-Zero ROM Hacker PowerPanda and tasked participants with creating the next numbered entry in an existing course type using only assets pulled from the original SNES game and its BS-X sequel.
