A new ROM hack has just been released for Konami's 1993 Game Boy title Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Montana's Movie Madness that aims to bring the US/European versions of the game more in line with its less challenging Japanese counterpart.

As was typically the case with a bunch of games released in the early 90s, the Konami platformer (which was inspired by the classic Warner Brothers' animated TV show) featured a bunch of notable regional differences between the US/European versions of the game and the Japanese release when it was originally launched.

Update : KurkoMods has revealed the release date for his long-awaited Banjo Kazooie mod "Banjo Kazooie: Nostalgia 64" after "much blood, sweat, and tears".

According to the creator, the mod will be available to his Patreon backers on May 7th, before releasing to the wider public on May 17th. To celebrate the news, the prolific N64 modder has published a new release date trailer on his YouTube channel, which is where you'll also be able to grab the files to patch your copy of the game.

Hudson Soft and AIM's 1993 Inspector Gadget game for the SNES has just received a new ROM Hack, bringing with it a bunch of cool tweaks and quality-of-life improvements to the cartoon sidescroller.

The original game, in case you're unfamiliar, saw players take control of the cybernetically enhanced police detective, as he must track down his niece Penny, who has been kidnapped by his nemesis Dr. Claw.

A new SRAM hack has been released for Sega's 1990 port of the Formula One racing sim Super Monaco GP, for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.

The hack is the work of the developer YoSoyNacho, who has previously created similar hacks for Kawasaki Superbike Challenge and F1 World Championship, and was originally released back in January.

The Star Fox ROM hacker SunlitSpace has recently revealed a huge, new update to one of their earliest hacks, incorporating new graphics, redesigning several levels, and ironing out a bunch of lingering issues.

Sunlit’s Untitled Star Fox Minihack was originally built over the course of two days back in 2022, using the UltraStarFox source code as a base, and was released across various ROM Hacking sites that very same year. It gave players the ability to play through a special, newly designed route that featured 6 levels (5 of which were remixes based on existing locations from the original game, while the last was described as an entirely new planet).

Super Mario Bros. 6, as the hack is called, is the creation of Kensuyjin33, who previously contributed graphics to projects like Mega Man World 3 DX and Mega Man World 5 DX, and was also behind Kid Dracula SGB Enhanced.

A patch adding comprehensive rumble support to Wario Land 4 has just hit 1.0, bringing with it a bunch of further improvements and bug fixes.

The Wario fan djedditt initially released the patch for the game back in August 2023 to coincide with the 22nd anniversary of the Game Boy Advance in Japan, with the project aiming to be the first homebrew solution to introduce the fun and tactile feature to the classic platformer.

A group of fans has recently created a brand new league for players to compete in on F-Zero SNES, called the Bower League, and it's now available to download for yourself if you want to put your skills to the test.

The fanmade league was created by members of the F-Zero online Discord community as part of a month-long community challenge, using the FZEdit level editing tool. It was organized by the F-Zero ROM Hacker PowerPanda and tasked participants with creating the next numbered entry in an existing course type using only assets pulled from the original SNES game and its BS-X sequel.

A group of fans has just released a new translation patch for Kamen Rider SD: Granshocker No Yabou, a 1993 Japan-exclusive Famicom title based on the Kamen Rider SD series.

Released way back in 1993, Kamen Rider SD: Granshocker No Yabou (translated here as Kamen Rider SD: The Ambitions of Grand Shocker) is a board game with RPG elements from the Japanese developer Angel. It sees players select a team from a group of riders and pick a region of Japan to liberate from the Grand Shocker — a gang of supervillains who are under the control of a mysterious character known as The Great Leader.

A new ROM hack has just dropped for Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems for the Super Nintendo that aims to give the retro beat 'em up the "Redux" treatment.

Marvel Super Heroes in the War of the Gems was originally released back in 1996 in both North America & Japan (with Europe getting the game one year later in 1997). It arrived at a time when many players had already made the switch to more powerful 3D consoles, like the N64, Sega Saturn, and Sony PlayStation, and was therefore considered a little bit dated by members of the press, with GamePro, for instance, describing it "a 1993 game trying to squeak by in 1996" and criticizing its lack of "sophisticated beat 'em up action".

It's easy to forget how amazing Sega's 3D Classics series was on 3DS. Not only did it give us amazing ports of some legendary arcade and home console releases, it added special features which made them even more unique—and Streets of Rage 2 was no exception.

The 3DS version added two new modes, Rage Relay and Casual. The former was arguably the most interesting, as it allowed the player to use all four characters during a single playthrough; when one character was defeated, another would step in.

The ROM hacker BillyTime!Games has just released a new patch for Final Fight 2 that rebalances the SNES beat 'em up.

This new patch doubles the amount of damage inflicted on enemies and players, speeding up the game and reducing some of the monotony of battling your way through low-level enemies that seem to absorb most of your attacks like their nothing.

A new demo has just been released for the eagerly anticipated Super Mario 64 ROM hack Return to Yoshi's Island, allowing players to take an updated look at the jaw-dropping fan project.

Return to Yoshi's Island, in case you're unfamiliar with it, is a new Super Mario 64 adventure that is being developed by the modders Kaze Emanuar and Biobak, with help from the musician Badub. It received its first playable demo a few years ago and is set to feature new stages, secrets, and characters, as well as an updated model for Mario.

A brand new colourization hack has just been released for the Mega Man Game Boy title, Mega Man IV, allowing players to experience the classic Nintendo Game Boy title with a fresh lick of paint.

The hack is the work of Marc Robledo, who previously created similar patches for the Game Boy titles Mega Man III and Mega Man V, and is playable on real Game Boy Color hardware and emulators.

The Sega-published racing game Cyber Speedway (which is known by the slightly unfortunate title Gran Chaser in Japan) has just got an interesting new patch that allows players to restore the Japanese soundtrack that was removed from some international versions of the game.

Cyber Speedway was originally released for the Sega Saturn console back in 1995. However, depending on where you were in the world, you may have experienced a slightly different version of the game, with Sega of America choosing to replace Kōji Hayama's spectacular synth-infused soundtrack with a more generic rock soundtrack from the Californian band Bygone Dogs, in North America.

Fans have just released two new improvement patches for the ill-received Sega Mega Drive title Fantasia from the developer Infogrames and its publisher Sega.

If you were a fan of Disney and video games in the early '90s, you'll know that we were pretty much spoilt for choice when it came to great 2D platformers starring Mickey Mouse. There was Sega's superb Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, and Land of Illusion, Capcom's incredible Magical Quest series, and of course, Traveller's Tales' Mickey Mania. But that's not to say there weren't some disappointments thrown in there too, with one good example of this being 1991's Fantasia, based on Disney's 1940 musical film of the same name.
