Taki Udon's SuperStation One is an FPGA interpretation of Sony's classic PS1 console built on the MiSTer FPGA platform, which means it will also run FPGA cores for a wide range of other systems, too.

Yesterday, Analogue gave us the rather sad news that its FPGA-based N64 clone, the Analogue 3D, has been delayed.

It wasn't all bad news, however, as this was accompanied by some more welcome news—PocketOS has been updated to version v2.5, and this brings with it the ability to connect every Nintendo Switch Online wireless controller to the device via its dock. The service offers NES, Famicom, SNES, N64 and Genesis / Mega Drive pads.

Taki Udon's promising SuperStation One FPGA PS1 console is getting a lot of people excited, and with good reason—not only is it capable of running your original PS1 games and accessories, but it will also play games for other systems thanks to the fact that it's built on the MiSTer FPGA platform.

We've already seen what the system and its dock will look like, but now Taki Udon is showing off the SuperStation One's bespoke user interface, which will support user themes and box artwork. There's even an option for captured screenshots to be used as wallpaper.

Analogue has just announced on social media that shipping for its FPGA-based N64 clone, the Analogue 3D, has been delayed to July 2025.

The Analogue console became available for pre-order in October of last year and was originally supposed to ship sometime in Q1 2025, but as we're now in the middle of March, it's become pretty clear that the developer was starting to run out of time to fulfil its original promise.

Tecmo's 1989 belt scroller Tecmo Knight / Wild Fang has come to MiSTer FPGA and Analogue Pocket, thanks to Jotego's Patreon.

"This belt-scrolling action game was created by the same team as Ninja Gaiden," says the FPGA developer. "An interesting aspect of the game is that the protagonist fights on a ‘servant’. There are three types of servants: a giant, a tiger and a flying dragon. Players can change freely back and forth from the giant to the tiger, but the dragon requires a special item."

Software engineer Eli Lipsitz has just revealed their next project: an open-source FPGA-based handheld which plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges, as well as ROMs loaded via an SD card.

The 'Game Bub' also supports the Game Boy link cable, has a built-in rumble, real-time clock and and the ability to expand it with other features in the future. It also has an optional dock which offers HDMI-out.

A signature element of many classic home computer games from the '80s is the use of MIDI music, and dwhinham's mt32-pi was intended as a tribute to that iconic sound.

Billed as a "baremetal MIDI synthesizer for the Raspberry Pi 3", mt32-pi was intended to serve as a "dedicated emulation of the famous multi-timbre sound module used by countless classic MS-DOS, PC-98 and Sharp X68000 games," and was shaping up to be a pretty promising project. It could even be combined with a MiSTer FPGA for truly authentic sound.

Think again, as we're now hearing that refunds—which were supposed to have been issued at the close of 2024—haven't actually been processed as planned, and Alejandro Martín, the man behind the bungled venture, has even claimed to have been hospitalised as a result of the project.

Konami's Gradius II is now playable on the Analogue Pocket and MiSTer FPGA, thanks to improvements made by Jotego on the JTTWIN16 beta FPGA core.

"This game was originally failing because the scroll settings that affect the sprite location were not applied at the expected time," explains the developer, who has released the updated beta via his Patreon. "That caused the game not to detect any collisions, so the ship would just have a peaceful travel to the boss scene and then stay there as you cannot hit the boss. Gladly, it is working now."

The company remains owned by Intel, which purchased the company for $16.7 billion in 2015, but it will now be able to enjoy a new period of freedom. The MiSTer FPGA community is constantly coming up with cool ways to expand the system, and that includes amazing stuff like the TapTo NFC loading system (now known as Zaparoo), which allows you to instantly boot up a ROM using NFC cards, very much like loading a cartridge.
