Search function does not search TimeExtension

When I type something into the search bar on Time Extension, I only get results from NintendoLife. For example, I was looking up stories about Romhacking.net, so I searched RHDN and only got 2 results, both from Nintendo Life.

Playstation 1 disc spins but slows down and stops

Why is this happening? I just replaced the optical drive with a new one. Any help would be appreciated! I turn on the unit, the cd spins fast but after 5 seconds it starts slowing down and eventually stops

The recent article on the lack of a game crash outside of the US got me thinking about how I perceive the ZX Spectrum. How were these used on a day-to-day basis? I've always thought of it as a game console because I only think and hear of it in terms of games. I've never used one myself and I can't imagine using a membrane keypad for word processing or other non-gaming applications.

So people who had a ZX Spectrum in the home: how did it get used?

For reference, I'm an American born in '83, had Atari 2600, 7800, Genesis, and always had an IBM Compatible PC from 1990 onward. It was purchased for business purposes (Dad was treasurer for a local non-profit) but we used it in evenings for games, school work, BBSs, and usenet.

PocketStation - The big Guide

The Pocketstation is the odd one out in PlayStation land as it's the system that gets almost no coverage.

Well I want to do something about that! Ever since getting FFVIII and seeing the manual document a whole in game mode that required the device, it felt that in Europe, we were not getting the full PlayStation experience.

So anyway, there is not a lot of footage or information out there on it, so I thought do an actual hardware capture on the PocketStation & FFVIII so you can all see what we've been missing out on.

I've also recorded 9 other games and their PocketStation functions as well as capturing the mini games and functions of the PocketStation.

Been playing the shmups and scrolling shooters more than usual lately. Just survival runs with games I’ve not ever spent much time with. Games like Bio-Hazard Battle / Crying. I’ll start off recommending it if you’ve not given it a go.

Growing up in the ’90s, I was cautious about bringing up video games with other kids. Plenty of us played, but talking about it at school could get you labeled a nerd. It was like watching Pokémon or Dragon Ball Z—lots of kids did it, but you had to pretend you didn’t.

These days, social norms feel much more accepting. Rappers reference Naruto, PS5s are in living rooms instead of basements, and I have no problem telling my wife I’m playing Elden Ring for a few hours.

Do you think gaming and “nerd culture” have become more mainstream, or is it just about growing up and becoming more confident?

Playdate Games

Playdate is slowly building up a catalog of great games and this may be a good place to talk about some of them. I think the best games for Playdate take advantage of its small form factor, not intended for 2 hour gaming sessions, but playing it throughout the day for 10-20 minutes at a time.

Bloom was a visual novel/relationship sim/business sim with a real-time clock and time delay between events that would give you reason to check in every now and then with no consequence for waiting too long.

Voidblazers is a narrative-based vertical SHMUP that I ended up playing through 5 times so I could unlock all the items and thereby unlocking all the dialog. The ship upgrades are collected early, the rest of the items are things that prompt the loveable characters to talk interact and talk. It’s not too difficult and has assist options if you just can’t get past something. Also, the entire soundtrack is full of bangers!

Echo: The Oracle’s Scroll, a chill exploration-focused metroidvania. Reminds me a bit of the Momodora series but without the combat. It does suffer slowdown which made some of the obstacles impossible to beat if your RAM hadn’t been cleared. A recent update improved that so there’s less slowdown.

Next 2 games in the queue are Initial Daydream and The Heist of the Argonaut Limited.

Do you, as people of the general public, and as a gamer, really care about "buzzword" design tropes for games? My point being when someone says "this game is a soulslike." I don't really like this one-note sorta offhand denotion of a game. Do you care if an up and coming game is a "Soulslike" or "DMC style" action game? Do those keywords in articles, and sometimes even steam pages themselves, entice you to play the game more?

Genesis Flash Cart

I think I’m gonna splurge and buy a flash cart. I guess the choice is between The MegaSD and Mega Everdrive Pro. They both will let me play MS, Genesis, SegaCD, and 32x(since I have a 32x). Anyone have strong opinions on either? Is there better support for one over the other?

Atari 2600/7800 cartridges in shops

Hello all!
I have recently bought an Atari 2600+, which is great. I am loving Adventure and Yar's revenge on the provided 10 in 1 cart. Amazon have stock of the reprints and older carts, eBay also has older carts for sale.
However I have realised that CEX doesn't appear to stock Atari 2600 or 7800 games!

Anyone know anywhere in the real world that stocks them?!
Or any good places online if not?

I’ve noticed lately some Retro streamers I watch doing RA’s. Not sure if this a newer trend but I’m typically not clued into much media at all. It looks like an interesting approach to old-school gaming. Anyone gotten into these or have any info about how it’s set up?

Hi, I am having a couple issues with the website. When I click my icon on the top right, the shade opens, but there is nothing in it except my name and user icon. Odd, because this is not a problem on NintendoLife with my same login. This is happening on iOS and MacOS Safari.

Also in both NintendoLife and Time Extension, YouTube videos do not load. It's just a black square where the video should be and nothing is clickable inside the square. There is text and a link to subscribe to NintendoLife at the bottom. If a link to the actual video could be placed there too, that would be a good workaround if it's not possible to fix the embedded YouTube videos themselves.

Hope someone can look into this. Thanks!

I kinda doubt this wil get much traction but here we go regardless.
Next month, ie tomorrow, I plan to do one of those self imposed challenge things.

And that is to play nothing but Wii U games for the entire month of June.
It helps thats i have a fairly decent Wii U library, so it wont be too rough.

...Hopefully.

What to do with ALOT of C64 cassette tapes and floppy discs

Hi all,
So I have boxes and boxes of both tapes and floppy discs for the C64.
A lot of the tapes are compilations.
Most of the discs are, to be honest, ripped games with a menu built in to each disc.
Is there a company that would take these for archiving or able to convert them to ROMs for me or something.
I know they are just going moldy in there which is sad as I have a lot of really random games in there and don't want them to go to waste.
To be honest I have not tested them out for over 30 years so god knows if any of them still work. They have been in my fathers loft for around 20 years (nice and dry) and now are in my bunker under my house (hence the username :P)
Anyone got any ideas?

With Paprium in the news, I’ve been skimming articles on the actual game. Sounds like it only runs on MAME and may require some tweaking. Has anyone successfully emulated this game? Is it even worth my time/effort?

May take extra effort as I’ll be trying it out on my hacked Genesis mini. MAME is real hit-or-miss on there.
