Old and Busted: Kickball - New Hotness: Virtual Wii P.E.

Recently, in England, four Worcestershire high schools added the Nintendo Wii console to their P.E. classes. In hopes the consoles would encourage students, who normally skip out, to get fit. (I recently wrote how gaming isn’t a suitable replacement for actual exercise).

Not only did the four high schools get the console… they also received heart rate monitors. (score!)

News.bbc.co.uk has a quote from a spokesperson from the partnership between Droitwich and Worcester City School…

“We needed to think differently - non-traditional, innovative and appealing to their existing interests. The use of computer games to increase physical activity levels and raise attainment to some would seem contradictory, but with rigid structures in place, and by using specific games, students soon found themselves being active and engaged almost without realising it.”

It still remains to be seen if this idea will go down as genius or idiotic…. but in any case what do you think about it?
