Official Nintendo Forums - Down

Nintendo has shut down their forums according to recent reports from various video game sites. The main reason why Nintendo made this move according to the reports is that Nintendo is working on a big change to their website.

A blog entry on Wired.com quoted Nintendo’s message which is, “For more than four years, these NSider Forums have fostered engaging, robust debates, a strong community and friendships. While their future remains uncertain, in the interim we invite our fans to build on the spirit of community by starting their own Nintendo discussion sites. Remember also that the unique features available with Nintendo DS and Wii give Nintendo the opportunity to communicate directly with fans, while also enabling fans and friends around the world to communicate with each other.”

Personally, I think that there is a possibility that they may shut down their forums forever. If people need help, then they can just use Nintendo’s customer support or they can browse the web to find out the solution to their problem.

It is the first time that I have heard this kind of move before from a big video game company’s forum. Maybe if they see that the Nintendo fans do not miss the forums, then they would not bring them back.

It would also save them money by making this move since they do not have to hire staff such as forum administrators, programmers, and moderators.

“We’ll see you soon elsewhere on the web,” says the last message on Nintendo’s forum.
