I’ve never been huge believer in the saying “too much of a good thing”. If something is good then I’m going to want more of it, especially if it’s lightsaber duels. If you keep up with my blog, then you know that I’m desperately awaiting the arrival of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (proven by this post). It seems as though another title is being developed that will utilize lightsaber battles as well.
Star Wars: Clone Wars is the title that will be gracing our Wii’s sometime in 2008. It is going to be based around the upcoming CGI movie and television show. The fact it’s going to be based around an existing movie and show throws up all kinds of red flags and alarms. But the game will have me using my wii remote as a lightsaber so by default I’m interested. In this Q&A with Ken Fox, session on IGN, we get to find out some information about the up and coming game.

So Will I Need Four Wii Remotes To Utilize Grievous Properly?

The game is being developed by Krome Studios. They have a decent track record, with Ty: The Tasmanian Tiger series being their strongest release.
Here are the important quotes that should be most noted from the interview:
“I wouldn’t describe what we’re doing as one-to-one in the way that you might picture, but we really tried to make it feel like you get to swing your Lightsaber ‘manually’. In short, it feels like the most natural and convincing sword type experience I’ve had on the Wii. And on top of that, it not just a sword, it’s a lightsaber.”
“We have one of the main writers from the movie and the series writing and all the voice talent from the series recording over 4000 lines of dialog for the game. So, when you as Obi-Wan versus General Grievous, they will say things to each other that they will never say to any other character.”
During most of the interview Fox really wants to drive home the fact that your “wii remote = lightsaber”. The fact that the gameplay won’t be complete 1:1 motion control is disappointing, because it could be done (theoretically). After this interview, and knowing the fact the game will be based around a movie and tv show release, I’m still more excited about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
That’s not to say that I won’t still be checking this game out, but I’ll have to see some gameplay footage before I make any more judgements towards it.
*Updated* I was able to find this debut trailer as well. It doesn’t show off any gameplay mechanics, but shows off the style behind Clone Wars.

As one of my friend told me about wii control mechanism which is lightsaber duels, I thought to buy it for my sister also. I am sure it is far better in terms of my previous wii. This could either be a nice game or a terrible that all based on how well a grasp developer Krome has on the wiimote control scheme.
