Nintendo To Sell 36 Million Wii Consoles

Nintendo says it wants to sell 36 million Wii consoles in the U.S. The company has sold 2.5 million Wii consoles in the U.S. since its debut in November, making it the best-seller among the newest gaming consoles.

George Harrison (not of Beatles fame), marketing chief at Nintendo of America said in an interview with techshout that they could reach the 36 million mark by 2011 or 2012.

Demand is much greater than we anticipated,” Harrison noted. “A year ago no one thought we would be in this position.”

Stocks of Wii are slowly coming out at present because I saw some merchants selling it online. I always hear people complained they cannot get hold of it because stores in their areas always ran out of stock. I guess this is the beginning of a turnaround.
