Apparently Nintendo is even putting a stop to television advertising for the Wii for a while due to problems meeting demand. That is the case in the UK at lease according to BBC News:
It said that holding back adverts until to 2008 would be a “responsible” move.
It now expects to have sold 17.5 million of the consoles worldwide in the year to March 2008 - up from the 14 million it had earlier forecast.
Nintendo is likely to use its advertising slots to promote its handheld DS console, analysts say.
I have not heard if they plan to pull commercials in North America or anywhere else, but I know the demand is just the same over here.

Ok, now I’m starting to really feel bad for Nintendo. Having to pull ads?? Man…
I also feel bad for people who can’t get one. I know, it sucks.

Wow, that sucks! Why are they doing this!?

Looks like Nintendo has taken a chapter from the oil producers book. keep supplies low thus creating artifically high prices and demand.
Great marketing, don’t you think?

You know Pywakit, you could have legitimately said this earlier in the year but in this run up to Christmas Nintendo is obviously selling every system they can. Over here in Ireland some retailers have resorted to buying consoles abroad to try and cope with demand. Ebay is probably the most honest indicator of demand with systems selling for upwards of 500 Euros (about $650) over here.
I’m not surprised Nintendo would pull ad’s, demand has already developed a momentum of its own. The benefits of winning the console wars are accruing for Nintendo.
