Nintendo Earnings up 77%
I read another financial report from Nintendo this morning. Nintendo is not only getting by or keeping up with their larger rivals… they are posting some extremely impressive numbers. Nintendo earnings thru March are actually up 77% over last year. Just as a basis for comparison, Google recently announced their profits were up a jaw dropping 69% in Q1.
Here are some of the highlights:
“Sales soared 90% … powered by brisk sales of its handheld DS machine and its wand-wielding Wii console”
“the Wii has been a surprise hit among kids, women and older players, catching on far beyond the traditional gamer niche of young men.”
“The Wii has pummeled its rivals in a head-to-head battle in next-generation video game consoles involving Sony’s PlayStation 3, which has been plagued with production problems, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.”
“Nintendo said it sold 5.84 million Wii machines worldwide in the five months since its release late last year.”
“The maker of Pokemon and Super Mario games also said it was marking robust sales with its Nintendo DS portable, which sold 16.02 million units worldwide in the latest fiscal quarter.”
