Hey everybody, welcome to the 2009 E3 WiiBlog — blog. Here, I’ll be providing cutting edge fast blog updates as Nintendo drops the big news bomb on all our proverbial heads. Mario, Link…a Mike Tyson Punch-Out? Whatever the announcement, it will be posted on WiiBlog as fast as my fingers allow me to type it. I hope that you are able to check out the video, or at least can keep up with the news as I post it.
(7:52 AM EST) – Sitting here, patiently painfully anticipating E3 to start. IGN has posted rumors that a “New” Super Mario Bros. game will be unleashed.
(8:07 AM EST) – Here is the trailer that will be shown off at E3 for No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle…
(11:09 AM EST) – Here is a gameplay demo video of Red Steel 2. OMG is really all I have to say about it. Enjoy.
(11:51 AM EST) – We are just under 10 minutes to go until Nintendo’s E3 keynote begins. I’m giddy like a school girl, just emptied my bladder and am ready to go — watch the keynote I mean, not go to the bathroom again.
(12:02 PM EST) – Nintendo is fashionably late, not surprised. For some reason Nintendo always starts late
(12:04 PM EST) – Eureka, conference is underway. Nothing but an intro video showing off random people playing the Wii. Zapper, Wii Wheel, The DS….it’s all there
(12:06 PM EST) – Cammie Dunaway takes stage. Not nearly as bubbly as she was last year…thanks god. She’s bragging about video game numbers as a whole, compares them against movies, and music. Atleast she’s bragging about games as a whole, I guess bragging about your own numbers gets old after awhile.
(12:08 PM EST) – Cammie is bringing up Mario…oh snap…showing off old Mario games. A Mario announcement this early in the show? Good sign. Uh oh she’s talking about 4 dimensions. Miyamoto has been thinking about a whole new way to play a Mario game. New Super Mario Bros. For Wii is ANNOUNCED!
(12:11 PM EST) – New. Super Mario Bros. looks to be a multiplayer experience. Graphics look like New Super Mario Bros. from DS only a bit more polished. The stage looks just like the first one from Super Mario Bros. on the NES

(12:13 PM EST) – The gameplay looks really kinetic, and heavily inspired by the smooth animations from the New Super Mario Bros. on the DS. You can play with up to 4 players. There’s a competitive nature to the game, it will keep track of points and show 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at the end. Will launch Holiday 2009.
(12:15 PM EST) – Wii Balance Board is being shown. Dunaway is bragging about the Balance Board, the numbers and what it’s capable of. Wii Fit Plus is announced. There’s a locker room that has more variety for creating your workout. You can workout for up to 40 minutes…no thanks. You can buy Wii Fit Plus with a balance board, or buy it seperate.
(12:19 PM EST) – Reggie Fils-Aime takes the stage. Not so much hatred for Dunaway this year, she took it down a notch. Fils-Aime is bragging about Nintendo invading the living room. Fils-Aime is going to be talking about MotionPlus.
(12:22 PM EST) – A video is now being shown that shows off MotionPlus. Creepy girl playing ping pong.

(12:24 PM EST) – The video was pretty cool, and showed off some of Wii Sports Resort’s mini-games. There is now a dude showing off Wii Sports Resort. There’s going to be sky diving, and your Wii Remote will act as your Mii. The controls looks to be spot on.

(12:28 PM EST) – The archery portion of Wii Sports Resort is being shown off. This actually looks pretty cool. You’ll aim with MotionPlus, and you have to factor things like wind and strength of pulling back on the bow.
(12:30 PM EST) – Reggie and the dude are playing basketball, it’s a 3-point contest. This doesn’t look as interesting as archery. How will the game pick up things like rotation of the wrist and strength of shot? It’s anyone’s guess.
(12:32 PM EST) – Thank god we’ve moved on from Wii Sports Resort basketball. Reggie Fils-Aime is now showing off third party games that will be utilizing Wii Remote MotionPlus. Reggie is now talking about Red Steel 2, and how it will be exclusive to MotionPlus. Reggie is bragging about numbers again, more third party games were sold on Wii than any other.
(12:34 PM EST) – Reggie is now explaining RPGs and how the power is mostly in the head. He’s now talking about Final Fantasy Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. A new trailer is shown off.

(12:37 PM EST) – Reggie has moved onto the Nintendo DS. New Kingdom Hearts game, and Bowser RPG on the DS is shown off.
(12:38 PM EST) – All you Golden Sun fans should be pleased. Golden Sun DS was just announced.
(12:40 PM EST) – Dunaway is back out, I think she’s going to be talking about the DS some more. If you like James Patterson then apparently the author is going to have a game on the Nintendo DS. Apparently it’s about solving crimes, and being a woman or something. Maybe since I have no idea who James Patterson is, this is very confusing.
(12:44 PM EST) – I really don’t want to say what’s being shown off now. Some kind of DS game showing off pre-teen clothes customization. I’m about to shed a tear, out of actual sadness…not joy.
(12:47 PM EST) – Dunaway is now talking about Nintendo DSi. She’s talking about how DSi is about customization. A new Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again is announced. WOW. Will be out on Monday, and be a DSiWare download.
(12:51 PM EST) – Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is briefly talked about for around 3-4 seconds. You can apparently try it out on the E3 show floor. I mean really? They show that pre-teen garbage off for like 6-8 minutes, then a Zelda game gets 3-4 seconds?
(12:53 PM EST) – Satoru Iwata is now taking the stage. Hopefully we’re back to the Wii now. Iwata is now talking about the global domination of the Nintendo Wii. Iwata is spouting numbers about how much the Wii has sold.
(12:58 PM EST) – Iwata is now talking about how the Wii is for all gamers. For some reason he’s talking about Mario Kart: Wii. I’m confused, scared, and sad all rolled into one at this point.
(1:00 PM EST) – Wii Vitality Sensor is announced. OMG this can’t be real. Ok, it’s real. With the Vitality Sensor, the device will be able to pick up pulses. I don’t get it, I really don’t. How will this enhance gaming? Iwata hasn’t explained that but the Wii Vitality Sensor will detect stress levels.
(1:02 PM EST) – Dunaway takes the stage again, recaps what happened during the conference. She is now announcing another Super Mario game….EUREKA…It looks to be Super Mario Galaxy 2….Yoshi makes an appearance. This is what I’m talking about. The gameplay and setting looks very similar to Super Mario Galaxy. Crap, in my excitement I forgot to take a screenshot. Yoshi is still rideable. It is definitely Super Mario Galaxy 2, and will bring back Yoshi to ride on.
(1:06 PM EST) Reggie takes stage. Says that gamers want more, and he talks about third party titles that are more “hardcore”…ugh. A new The Conduit trailer is shown off, it releases this month. Now he’s showing off Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. There’s a new trailer, looking pretty good. Now, we get the third of the “hardcore” third party games, Dead Space: Extraction. This is a brand new trailer, looking really good.

(1:11 PM EST) – Reggie talks about taking the Wii in a more mature direction from a first party perspective. It looks to be in space. Developed by Project M, Team Ninja. A new Metroid game, Metroid: Other M is announced. AMAZING trailer. Fils-Aime promises a more mature, and fleshed out Metroid experience from the collaboration between Team Ninja and Nintendo.

(1:14 PM EST) – And that’s the show. Highlights are definitely New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid: Other M. Overall, a ‘good’ conference. There were some down moments, but the announcement of SMG2, and Metroid: Other M made up for all of it
I hope everyone enjoyed atleast some of the show. You can tell things were getting dire there in the middle for me. I really have no idea what Nintendo is thinking with the Vitality Sensor. They didn’t even show off software with it. However, we got Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, and New Super Mario Bros. to be excited about. Perhaps it will be like last year, where most of the great Nintendo related content dropped on the floor and not the keynote.
