According to a Bloomberg article last Friday, it looks like Nintendo is moving full speed ahead with game production for both the Wii and the DS. One of Bloomberg’s Tokyo reporters, Pavel Alpeyev, wrote that Nintendo has 45 titles currently in development for the Wii and a whopping 79 titles in the works for the DS.
It seems to me that the primary complaint I hear about the Wii - namely a lack of titles - is being addressed. Keep in mind these are Nintendo developed titles. That 45 for Wii and 79 for DS doesn’t even factor in the 3rd party developer releases.
Speaking of 3rd party support. I don’t think there are any doubts that third party developers are going to be extremely interested in developing for DS and Wii. Take a look at these numbers - the DS lifetime sales are sitting somewhere around 40 million units and (Nintendo) is projecting an addtional 22 million units sold this year. The Wii has already sold almost 6 million units and (Nintendo) projects an additional 14 million Wiis to find homes between now and March of 2008.
Somehow I doubt the 3rd party developers are going to be ignoring Wii or DS if there are some 80 million of them in the living rooms of people with game money in their pockets.
