The first Final Fantasy-themed game for the Nintendo Wii will not be the same as the Final Fantasy games that most people know about.
Square Enix decided that they will release a game called Mysterious Dungeon. This is a game where you control Chocobos which are creatures that look like a cross between big birds and chickens. You, as the player, will fight enemies on a grid-based, turn-based system according to Chris Kohler’s article based on his experience when he played it in the Tokyo game Show 2007 event.
You can change your Chocobo’s class to a Knight or to a White Mage but you can only do it when you find spots in dungeons which have crystals.
To heal yourself, you can use potions or you can cast a spell to yourself if you have a White Mage.
There will also be other useful items such as poison books that let you cast a poisonous gas for a short distance.
Most of the time, players will hold the Wiimote horizontally. Therefore, based on that statement, it is safe to assume that this game will not require a Nunchuk to play.
Mini-games are also included in the game and I guess this feature is obvious since most Wii games have this feature.
It will be released later this year in Japan but I have not read any article saying whether this will also be released for North American and European Wii gamers.

I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of unhappy FF** fans out there. I’m sure Square know what they are doing, just hope the fan base knows.
