Microsoft bloke plays down the Wii

:

It was only inevitable that someone had to rain on the Wii’s parade, this time coming from Microsoft’s Andre Vrignaud.

Speaking at the height of the Wii’s success in Japan and the US, Vringaud pointed out that “The online service isn’t there yet — but to be fair, it also wasn’t promised at launch as did Sony.”

“Nintendo is still insisting on using Friend Codes (or Wii number) to identify yourself on the system. This sort of sucks.

He also had a pop at the Wii’s graphical capabilities, adding “Graphically the Wii won’t blow your socks off. Even Zelda, probably one of the best looking Wii games, only ranges from ‘ok’ to ‘very good’ in my opinion. I’ll also add that the new controls don’t add anything to the Zelda experience — frankly, they were tacked on to help sell Wiis.”

Is he insane!? Precise arrow aiming, remote swinging swordplay, nunchuck shaking spin attack, yeah, ok Zelda will be the same experience on the gamecube then…NOT!

    Typical Microsoft attitude:

“Those other products are so inferior, I just don’t understand why our product isn’t selling better!”

I own all 3 next gen systems, and currently my PS3 is dusty, my Xbox 360 has only been used to play recent releases. (Gears of War - beat in 3 days on hardcore) But, my Nintendo Wii and Zelda have been going at it for over 30 hours. I didn’t like the controls at first, when all I had was a sword, but now that I have all kinds of fun stuff, it’s been very entertaining. As far as the graphics, yes, it’s not close to what the Xbox 360 and PS3 are able to produce, but Nintendo never claimed it would. My opinion of Zelda’s graphics are, the more you play, the less you care about them. The gameplay out does the visuals. The other systems, the graphics are sweet, but the gameplay is lacking on most of the games. I’ll take gameplay over graphics any day of the week. Also, everything Nintendo claimed the system will do, it does, and it does it well.

Gotta love Microsoft. Whenever there is an innovative idea or product that they didn’t think of, then it’s time for them to bash it.

Thing is, the Wii was never promised to be the next best thing in graphical gaming. It was supposed to be different, and it delivered that and then some. Mission accomplished.

This guy obviously is just trying his hardest to play down the awsome proformance of nintendo’s wonder console, which is kinda his job i suppose. but by pointing out the consoles obvious weaknesess (which nintendo never lied about) he makes himself and microsoft look pretty sad,and somewhat desperate i have a 360 and a Wii (Wii60) and i love them both, but when i first played my Wii the first words out of my mouth were “sony and microsoft are in trouble” cause the immersion is there with the Wii, sony and microsoft know this.
And they know they could be in trouble, so what do big companys do when they know they might be beat??
SLANDER!!! but they forget PLAYING = BELEIVING :)

I own A GBA Advance, DS, and Nintendo Wii. I have owned an Xbox once (and then sold it) and have never owned a Playstation. I am a huge Nintendo fanboy, even though I’m 27.

I 100% agree with what Microsoft is saying:

    - Online service isn’t quite there yet - AGREE
    - Adding Wii friends codes just to talk to others sucks - AGREE
    - Wii controls were tacked onto Zelda to sell games - AGREE
    - Zelda graphics are sub-par to other systems - AGREE

You guys have to admit that he is right. But as time goes on Nintendo will solve these issues with games that were specifically designed for the Wii, with better graphics, more internet channels, updated firmware, and more. There are a LOT of things the Wii has that XBox/Playstation doesn’t have, such as the Virtual Console. I personally love the Wii, but these are some of the very few downsides to the console.
