Coming out of E3, one of the games I’m most excited about isn’t being released on a disc. Call me a sucker for nostalgia, but I’m as giddy as a school girl waiting on the release of Mega Man 9. In case you haven’t heard anything about it, Mega Man 9 is a brand new (old?) adventure for the blue bomber. The game will be available on Nintendo’s WiiWare service which uses the old school NES style of Mega Man (old school; meaning better than any of Mega Man’s recent games).

Luckily You Wont Have To Blow Into Any Part Of The Nintendo Wii For Mega Man 9 To Work….OR WILL YOU?
The release is slowly creeping on us, so more details have been released on what we can expect to see in Mega Man 9. In an interview with Gamasutra the lead producer of Mega Man 9 shared some details of the upcoming title. The largest bit of news is how Capcom is incorporating some of the old bugs that Mega Man (men) games had in the old school days of the NES. The bugs will be optional to turn on, and will include some of the classics such as, screen flicker, slowdown, and sprite spikes.
Mega Man 9 will be releasing sometime in September, with Mega Man 1 & 2 being available on the Virtual Console at the end of the month.
I love the idea of retro gaming. The great thing about diving into games from our past, even if they are brand new is to capture the moments that made us love games in the first place. Also it gives us a chance to appreciate how far games have come since the 8-bit days of the NES. [/sentiment]

The bugs will be optional
I’m glad to hear that. I heard they were incorporating the old flicker and I thought “WHY?” I mean, yeah they’re nostalgic but still… they’re annoying!
I’d love to see them re-release the old ones WITHOUT the flicker.

*rolls eyes* Those trolls never learn, do they?
Getting back on topic, I plan to get MM9 as soon as it comes out. The classic games have always been and will forever remain my favorite of the franchise.

As not only a Mega Man fan, but also a classic gaming fan, this is a needed return to simplicity. Don’t get me wrong, I love the shiny graphics and the detailed presentation of today’s games… but most games today lack the challenge of the old. Cannot wait for this game. Personally, I hope this keeps up and we recieve a Mega Man X9 with 16-bit graphics. And why stop there? Give us new Ghosts and Goblins, Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Castlevania, and so forth. Classic 8 and 16-bit is what defines the video game artform.

It’s good to see the Classic Mega Man Series back in the spotlight, I grew up playing the series so I’m psyched for this release. ROCK ON BLUE BOMBER!

I bought and played the entire classic serie from begin to end on NES. Replayed them again on emulators. I also played some of the X serie and some battleZone stuff or whatever but they never grabbed me by the balls like the classics. Megaman2 is my al time favorite because of the music i guess.
And now finally… new levels with the classic look and feel.. Whoohaaa… i think capcom has vision and feeling with gamers to release an 8 bit game in these days of 3d HD graphics. The game isn’t released here in europe yet… i’m checking like every other night on the wiware channel… :S when its out.. its a race agains the clock,.. how fast can i beat the game
beware dr. Wiley…. i will soon be on my way
