Legend of Zelda Wii Concept Art Is Released Public

During the press roundtable at E3, Miyamoto talked about the future of Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Wii. He wanted to let people know that Nintendo is working on it, and to prove that he showed off a piece of concept art. At that time (two days ago), this was secret information. Now, the art has been made public.

I think it looks well done, and I especially like the paint effect. The question remains, who is the white Zora looking creature? The rumors floating around the interwebs is that it’s the Master Sword in living form. That’s an interesting theory, and the crystal on the creature’s chest definitely looks like the one set inside the Master Sword.

    Well, paint me excited!

  2. mort Says:

This link looks excactly like link from ocarina of time. Notice that link does not have a sword in this picture and now look at that girl… she looks suspiciusly like the master sword in human form, doesen’t she?

  3. Liquid Says:

The background looks somewhat like a portal, of fire. Perhaps it shall include some sort of dimension? or a seal that’s undone. Perhaps the place where the evil purged by the master sword goes too!! weee…

  4. Joe22 Says:

I say it’s more Zora then Master sword, if she was then that gem would need to be yellow, not blue. Maybe this story line is centered around the Zoras and that is just one of their guardians, as the sages are for the Hylians.

  5. James Harris Says:

The blue figured girls characteristics seem to resemble the Master Sword perfectly. My speculation is that the master swords “spirit” ( or something similar ) is a key factor to the plot of the story. Obviously many other fans have seen the same thing. Think about this ~ The
Hyrulian crest on the Hylian shield shows the Triforce but also another upside down piece at the bottom. This mystery triangle has never been discussed in the zelda series. Farore of Courage, Din of Power, Nayru of Wisdom created the land of Hyrule, could the Master Sword’s spirit be the Goddess of Time?, left in the Temple of Time for each generation of the “The Hero of Time”. Possibly even creating a “Quadra~Force”. This may seem far fetched but it fits the pic…alot. Im guessing the passage of time will be influenced more in this game aswell as the Ocarina of Time. These ideas are only “ideas” but take them into thought and dig for the gold.

  6. Dude Says:

Well, Link also looks alot like he did in TP.
As for the little figure. It does look like the mastersword, but it defenitly looks like the great fairy from the Wind Waker series. You can look it up if you want.

  7. Chia Says:

When I saw this I immediately thought of the fairy queen from Wind Waker. It looks like a non-cell shaded version of her to me. I really really like the master sword hypothesis, but I’m going to cite Occam’s razor on this one.

    Exhibit A:

Although the lack of the master sword in Link’s hand is intriguing… I guess they could have just borrowed stylistically from the fairy queen design?

  8. Chia Says:

Actually… I think I’m going to recant that. The shape, the colors… I’m thinking master sword now.

    Miyamoto is such a tease.

  9. JohnnyV Says:

@Chia – After checking out that YouTube video, I can see the resemblance to the fairy queen. Heck, maybe the essence of the Master Sword is fairy related.

  10. Link Says:

I CAN’T wait till this game comes out its looks really fun just by the artwork i think the girl is the mastersword spirt well will find out when it comes out

  11. Kimu Says:

Wow this looks interesting. I can tell already though that im gonna play it and be pressing the up button thinking ‘why cant i transform into a wolf?’ lol Ive been hoping there would be another zelda for the wii! YAY

  12. teh Says:

Yeah, look at the cloak thing on the ‘spirit’ it looks uncannily like the master swords hilt. Also, the way the ‘spirit’ stands right where Link’s sword is usually positioned on his back leads me to believe the speculation of it being the master sword…

  13. Mak Says:

I definitely think that this fairy like thing is a live incarnation of the Master sword mainly because of the Link’s empty hand and the striking resemblence:

    Legs — Sword Handle
    Coat — Sword ‘winged’ hilt
Belt like thing — Similiar ring on the hilt
Head and hair ” Sword Blade and tip
Gold lines on stomache — Similiar gold trim on bottom of blade
    Gem — Gem on hilt

Definitley similiar, but also if you look at the fairy queen from wind waker they both have the same hair and a very similiar face.

  14. MelonPiranha Says:

Link is right handed in that picture. Probably cause it’s for the wii. The ghost thing looks a little like zant, only a little.

  15. viridia Says:

I agree, she kind’a looks like Zant. But she looks more like the Fairy Queen from the Wind Waker.

Although I mostly agree with the theory that she’s the Master Sword personified. But what stuck out most to me is, why is Link’s shield on his left hand when he, in all games, is left-handed (therefore wielding his sword in his left hand)? I realize that in Twilight Princess for the Gamecube (the original version) he is still left-handed, and since they mirrored everything when they switched it to the Wii, Link became a righty…but…still. Just seems a bit whack.

Or maybe I’m just stuck on tradition.

  16. Rob Says:

Keep in mind that the CG artists for all of the Zelda games have a certain style about them. I’ve noticed a striking resemblance with a lot of characters between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. It’s very possible that the fairy from Wind Waker and the mastersword spirit just happened to be designed with the same artistic view in mind. Plus, we haven’t seen the real game image yet. The real character might look somewhat different from the concept art we see here.

And, to answer your question about link being a righty, I’ve heard multiple times that the only reason why he is now a righty is because the majority of the population is right handed. This means that link would have to change to match most of the people who hold the Wii remote, Since this game is being released for the Wii, I believe they stuck to that idea, which, if I might add, kind of disrupts the image built up of link.

It definitely looks like a wicked game though. I am looking forward to its release.

  17. Rob Says:

One last note: Did anyone else notice that the sheath for the Mastersword is also missing???
