Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata recently sat down to discuss the company’s upcoming console, Nintendo Wii, with Electronic Gaming Monthly.
Miyamoto revealed that the company is not planning on implementing a microphone into the Wii remote as it would prove far too expensive; he instead suggested that a headset would be far more appropriate. He also added that Nintendo are continuing to research on ways to improve the graphical features of the Virtual Console. Lastly, Miyamoto revealed he would love to include Connect24 into the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and is looking into ways to include this functionality.
Meanwhile, President Iwata acknowledged that third party developers in the west would not produce Wii incarnations of their games similar to that of PS3 or X-Box 360 versions, due to the fact the Wii is not as powerful. In regards to Connect24, he stated it would work like a mobile phone, in the sense that even though the console is turned off, you’ll still be able to receive information. He admitted that the Gamecube lacked exclusive third party support, but assured us that the Will would not be lacking in this area. Lastly, reiterating the company’s goal on expanding the gaming market, he said, that while achieving this in Japan has proved a success, it would be much harder in the west.
