Symantec, an anti-virus developer, has released a statement that the Wii has a vulnerability when it plays a video using Adobe’s Flash player through the Opera browser.
I have not heard about previous vulnerabilities about the Opera browser for the Wii and the article from pcworld did not include any info whether this is the first of its kind or whether there were previous events that have happened before.
This particular vulnerability is not just for the Wii though. Other operating systems including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux as well as devices such as smartphones are also affected.
When a Wii user stumbles into this video, his or her console system will freeze. Some users have uploaded videos in Youtube which shows the other effects of the bug.
Wii gamers need to update their Flash player from Adobe’s site to fix the vulnerability.
The keywords “security threat” are also on the original article but it doesn’t say specifically what kind of threats they are. Since it’s a security threat, it would be wise to update your system as soon as possible.
I have a feeling that this will be a norm for Wii users in the future. Maybe the Wii will have a special anti-virus on its own. Who knows.

alright, we need to make it a well known fact that the wii’s flash player needs to be upgraded. the sooner the problem is widely addressed, the sooner nintendo send out a new update, hopefully with video players of other sorts upgraded as well.

A friend of mine said you can update flash on your Wii, I tried it and it didn’t work (damn rumors). I thought “maybe you have to do some other shit” so I did a search and a link to this page came up in the results.

I have been going crazy trying to update my flash player but to no avail. If nintendo can send out some kind of software that can update our wii’s browser than we can all breathe easy. P.S. I am also posting this on my wii.

we as consumers cant upgrade the damn system so unless u figure out how to do iy just shut up. nintendo has to uppgrade the whole wii internet browser and then put it on the wii shop channel so we have to pay for it. they arent gonna make it possible for us to upgrade it ourselves so just stop asking. go on the nintendos sites and tell them there to put out a new updated browser. sitting here complaining to each other isnt going to solve anything.
