I consider it a great, and complete day if I ever get to use Airplane quotes in my post titles. The question is relevant because IGN has announced a gladiator Wii game that will be shown off at E3. Which is aptly name – Gladiator A.D.
High Voltage is the development team behind Gladiator A.D. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because they’re the development team behind The Conduit. IGN snagged an interview with prominent members of the team, and provided a substantial amount of information about the game. I’ve read the interview, and have pieced together the important bits of information. If you’d like to read the whole thing, you can click the link above.
– Gladiator A.D. will have strategic combat mechanics, with a light RPG twist. This will provide players with a wide array of options.
– The game will take place in the traditional Roman Gladiatorial circuit. (Hopefully Russell Crowe will make an appearance)
– There will be a large amount of characters to choose from. The ones High Voltage have announced are Dark Druids, daughter of an Egyptian priest, an arena champion, and the emperor.
– Each playable character will have a unique background, fighting style. Certain characters will react with others in different ways.
– Gladiator A.D utilizes the Quantam3 engine, the same as The Conduit.

– “Gladiator A.D. is not a traditional 3D fighting game. It’s more of a hybrid between 3D Fighting games like Bushido Blade and Boxing games like Fight Night. The action is intense, but the combat is strategic. You need to learn your opponent’s weaknesses and think through your attack patterns to succeed. There is no button-mashing here.”
– The game will incorporate motion controls, and will furthermore support Wii Remote MotionPlus.
– The game is slated for a Q1 2010 release

The way they speak of strategy used to take down opponents…sounds like Punch-Out! Right?

hmm, interesting take. From the screens I saw, I thought more of Fight Night than anything else. With the emphasis they put on strategy, Punch-Out! seems like a fair comparison
