Boom Blox: Physics Or Steven Spielberg?

:

A collaborative effort between EA and Steven Spielberg isn’t at all surprising. These two have hooked up before, when Spielberg wrote the story for EA’s Medal of Honor back in 1999. What is definitely surprising, is Spielberg’s newest collaboration with EA for the Wii. Boom Blox is the title and is starting to catch popularity across the video game-verse. Its’ gaining popularity has sparked a question in my mind. What’s the reason behind the sudden interest in Boom Blox; is it the physics engine or Steven Spielberg’s involvement?

Boom Blox

Taking a look at GameStats, the proof is there that Boom Blox is gaining popularity, as it’s #7 on the list, and looks to be moving up. As I’ve been reading previews, and watching videos of Boom Blox, I can definitely see where alot of the attention is coming from. What I find funny is that I couldn’t find a single preview or article stating Spielberg’s actual involvement with the game. Gametrailers provided me with the information I needed, as I finally found out what Spielberg actually had to with the game. Going by the interview in the video I will provide, Amir Rahimi talks about how Spielberg came up with overall concept for Boom Blox. In the interview, it seems as though Spielberg didn’t have a whole lot of hands on development for the game. But Rahimi mentioned that Spielberg was in EA’s office giving advice when he could.

Checking out gameplay videos, and screens of Boom Blox I can see why this game is becoming so popular. The physics engine looks to be a blast, as you can create massive towers, from different blocks and completely destroying it. The game kind of reminds me on my younger days when I would using wooden building blocks to do the same thing. It will be interesting to see if the entire game comes together to provide a truly fun and engaging experience. Going by all the trailers and previews, my interest is definitely piqued. I can’t wait to see how big Spielberg’s name is going to be on the case though. Enjoy this Nintendo Media Summit Video, provided by Gametrailers.

What do you all think of Boom Blox so far? Does it really looks as fun as alot of people say, or is the Steven Spielberg hype the cause of it all? Feel free to leave your comments and thoughts below.
